Meet educators/artists Rick and Laura Brown—they had an improbable dream.
They wanted to rebuild Gwozdziec, a magnificent wooden, eighteenth century Polish synagogue that had been destroyed by the Nazis. And, they wanted to build it in Poland. Over ten years, their vision and energy inspired hundreds of people to join them. Using traditional tools and techniques, they brought Gwozdziec history, culture, science, and art back to life. Gwozdziec’s reconstructed roof and elaborate ceiling painting will soon be the centerpiece of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews when it opens in 2014 on the site of the Warsaw Ghetto.
Rick and Laura will talk of the many challenges and joys of replicating the Gwozdziec Synagogue.
