Make a Gourd Banjo/Explore history

Location: Handshouse Studio in Norwell, MA

Make a gourd banjo and join us in our collaborative exploration of early forms of the banjo and it’s evolution through American history. Using traditional materials and processes, each student will take part in making a historical gourd banjo and be invited to contribute to the larger investigation of the banjo’s complex global story.

No previous musical or woodworking experience is required.

This 6 day intensive course is an excellent opportunity for students, teachers, and the authentically curious! Come be a part of an on-going Handshouse project to understand the gourd banjo and its place in American history!

To reserve a spot in this session we ask that you pay a $200 Deposit. This deposit will cover your materials fee and go toward your tuition. The full tuition fee is $700. 

The deposit is fully refundable up to August 10, 2018.

Your final tuition balance will be due at the start of the session on August 20th. Payment by cash, money order or check (payable to Handshouse Studio) for the final tuition balance is due at the first class.
